1777.
On the fourth of July, 1777, General Burgoyne issued a pro­clamation from his camp, near Ticonderoga, intended to spread terror among the Americans. But it was so pompous and bombas­tic, that, instead of producing the desired effect, it became the subject of ridicule and derision. The subjoined version of it, is attributed to Francis Hopkinson.
BURGOYNE'S PROCLAMATION.
